€250m Kilshane Energy power plant to fuel demand for industrial construction expertise
Construction of a €250 million power station in north Dublin will start later this year, setting in motion one of Ireland’s largest new industrial builds. Kilshane Energy has finalised a deal with Italian firm Ansaldo Energia for a 300MW open cycle gas turbine, confirming the project’s move into the delivery phase.
The 70-acre site, zoned for heavy-industry use, offers significant scope for contractors and suppliers across civil works, structural engineering, and plant installation. With completion expected in 2028, the facility will serve as a peaking plant—operating during periods of high demand or low renewable output—to ensure grid stability.
Brian McMullan, project lead at Kilshane, described the initiative as essential to maintaining a reliable energy network while Ireland increases its reliance on renewables. The site’s proximity to gas and electricity grid connections, along with the T50 fibre network, positions it for future integration with digital and low-carbon infrastructure.
Owned by the LCC Group, Kilshane Energy is also assessing further opportunities for energy-related developments on the same site. The move follows similar power station projects announced by SSE in Meath and Kerry, underlining a surge in demand for construction capacity and technical expertise across Ireland’s energy sector.
