MDP+ Partners has secured finalist status in two categories at the Building and Architect of the Year Awards 2026, with entries that showcase the practice’s breadth across hospitality architecture and socially driven restoration work.
The Haven Hotel entry centres on the construction of a new underground function room designed to accommodate weddings and concerts, connected to an existing hotel that is a protected structure dating from 1964. The challenge was significant: the new addition was required to integrate seamlessly into the hotel’s formal gardens without interrupting the façade of the original building. Delivering a functional space of that scale beneath a protected garden, while preserving the visual integrity of both the building and its grounds, demands a level of precision and sensitivity that few commissions require. MDP+ Partners’ response to that brief places it among the strongest entries in the Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality category.
The Factory Building for Google Ireland presents a different but equally demanding brief. The Factory is a protected 19th-century industrial building within the Boland’s Mill SDZ, with a cultural history that includes serving as a rehearsal and performance venue for artists including U2, David Bowie, and Barry Keoghan. Google Ireland’s brief called for the restoration of the 550 square metre two-storey building into a flexible space for performance, workshops, exhibitions, and community engagement. In restoring a building of this cultural significance into a living, working venue, MDP+ Partners has delivered a project that honours the building’s past while ensuring its relevance to the communities it will serve going forward.
Taken together, the two entries present a compelling portrait of a practice that brings the same rigour and respect to every protected structure it works with, regardless of typology or scale.
