Kansas City-based global design firm Populous, which specialises in sport, entertainment, and large-scale public assembly venues, has acquired OJB Landscape Architecture, a Houston-based award-winning practice in landscape architecture and urban design, in a deal that expands its capability to deliver integrated public realm design around major venues and mixed-use destinations.
Coliseum News reported that the financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, with OJB Landscape Architecture retaining its existing studios in Boston, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Philadelphia, and San Diego, alongside its current firm leadership.
The acquisition grows Populous to more than 950 employees in the Americas and over 1,600 globally, adding OJB's portfolio of public spaces, civic landscapes, and urban environments to Populous' existing landscape and urban design capabilities in projects including Pittsburgh's North Shore, Target Field in Minnesota, LoanDepot Park in Miami, and Allianz Field in Minnesota.
Bruce Miller, chairman and CEO of Populous, said OJB Landscape Architecture is globally recognised for its exceptional landscape architecture, urban design, and planning, and that bringing the firm into Populous strengthens the ability to design complete, immersive environments from venues to the surrounding public realm, ensuring every part of the experience is thoughtful and cohesive.
Jonathan Burnett, president of OJB Landscape Architecture, said Populous shares the firm's belief in the power of design to bring people together and shape communities, and that together the two firms can extend the reach and impact of their work to create more integrated and meaningful environments for people around the world.
