UK hospitality group Whitbread PLC has commenced construction of a 157-bedroom Premier Inn hotel at Sandyford Business Park, D18, marking the brand's first property in Outer Dublin, as reported by Hotel News Resource.
The eight-storey building on Arkle Road will incorporate the brand's latest room format alongside Premier Plus rooms and updated ground floor spaces. Galway-based Monami Construction has been appointed to lead the build, with works expected to take approximately 18 months and the hotel scheduled to open in Spring 2028.
Whitbread acquired the long-lease interest for the site in December 2023 and received planning permission from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council in May 2025. The Sandyford development will be the ninth Premier Inn to open in Ireland and the first project Monami Construction has delivered for Whitbread in Ireland.
Sandyford Business Park was selected by Whitbread as the first location for Premier Inn in Outer Dublin given its blue-chip and international occupier base and excellent transport connections.
Emma O'Shiel, project and programme manager for Whitbread, said: "Around half of Premier Inn guests stay with us for work and business trips, so expanding into established commercial hubs is a key part of our growth strategy in Ireland. Sandyford Business Park stands out as one of Dublin's most successful business locations, yet it remains underserved by affordable, branded hotels like Premier Inn. This combination made Sandyford a very clear investment opportunity for us."
Ger Corbett, CEO of the Sandyford Business District, said: "The delivery of a high-quality, branded hotel in the park is an important step in supporting that business community, providing much-needed accommodation for employees, clients and visitors. We welcome Whitbread's investment and look forward to seeing the Premier Inn become an integral part of Sandyford's continued growth."
Robert Conneely, director of Monami in Ireland, said: "This is an important project in a key commercial location, and our team looks forward to bringing our experience in delivering high-quality hotel developments to ensure the scheme is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards."
The Sandyford opening forms part of Whitbread's strategy to build a 5,000-bedroom Premier Inn network across Ireland. The company currently operates six trading Premier Inn hotels across Dublin and Cork and has a further five properties under construction in Ireland, with additional locations targeted across Dublin city centre and regional cities including Galway, Limerick, and Waterford.
