PJ Hegarty has appointed Maurice Killeen as managing director for Ireland as the contractor expands activity across infrastructure, pharmaceutical, commercial and aviation developments. For the building and architecture sector, the appointment comes at a time of sustained project demand, with contractors increasingly focused on operational delivery, specialist capability and long-term pipeline growth.
Business Plus reported that Killeen succeeds into the senior leadership role after more than three decades with the family-owned business, having joined PJ Hegarty in 1993. The company said annual turnover now exceeds €500m as it continues to expand operations across Ireland and the UK.
Killeen most recently served as operations director for the Southern Region and joined the company’s board in 2022 after previously holding the role of regional director. An engineering graduate of University College Dublin, he has overseen projects spanning civil engineering, industrial facilities, pharmaceuticals, life sciences and commercial construction.
Killeen said: “From the outset, my journey with PJ Hegarty has been shaped by working with exceptional people throughout our industry to deliver important and noteworthy projects across a broad range of sectors.”
He added: “I am delighted to take on the role of Managing Director and excited to lead the continued growth and success of our Irish business.”
PJ Hegarty is currently delivering several major schemes, including the development of Citibank’s headquarters in Dublin Docklands, aviation works at Dublin and Cork airports, pharmaceutical facilities and large-scale data centre projects. The contractor is also delivering the 25-storey Railyard residential development at Albert Quay in Cork, set to become Ireland’s tallest residential building.
The leadership appointment coincides with wider growth ambitions as the company continues to scale delivery capacity across Ireland and Britain.
