Irish contractor John Sisk & Son has been awarded a €70 million contract to construct a 14-storey office building at Opera Square in Limerick, according to Concept Hardware. The landmark development will become the tallest structure in the Mid-West region.
Minister of State for the Office of Public Works Kevin Moran and Mayor of Limerick John Moran announced the contract award. The 100,000 sq ft building will serve as a central hub for the public sector, accommodating the Revenue Commissioners and other government departments. Once complete, the facility will consolidate up to 1,500 civil servants into a high-quality city-centre location.
Limerick Twenty Thirty delivers the project on behalf of the OPW, marking the first time this specific delivery model has been utilised. The building has been designed to Nearly Zero Energy Building standards, with low energy requirements met entirely through renewable sources.
Minister Kevin Moran said: "Today I am announcing the appointment of John Sisk and Son and look forward to the commencement of what is an important project for the OPW, Limerick and the wider Mid-West region. This new landmark building will play a key role in the modernisation of OPW's portfolio and its strategic goal to create more agile, digitally-enabled workspaces that will meet the current and future operational needs of our client Departments and achieve value for money."
Mayor John Moran added: "Driving the Opera Square development has been one of those priorities that keeps me awake at night. Now, I feel, we have real momentum and I welcome today's announcement. It's a clear signal of continued Government support for Limerick and our future."
Construction is scheduled to take approximately 30 months, supporting up to 300 jobs during the building phase.
